The only bit of subtext i could really get out of this episode was Gabrielle's preoccupation with the mole on Xena's chin while Xena was in disguise as Ezra. Gabrielle is very concerned with Xena's looks.
AlBi points out to me: Xena says to Gabby (both in disguise) that she has "heard of her" and that she "used to be beautiful", at which Gabby gets a funny kind of disgusted look on her face, as if to say "and what's wrong with the way I look now?"
