The Execution

Not the best written episode in the world, ...and not much in it to call subtext. Here are some lines which could be stetched into subtext: Gabrielle is boasting of the accomplishments of her friend and hero, Meleager; "He's a hero in the truest sense of the word! It doesn't bother you, does it?" To which Xena replies, "It doesn't bother me." Perhaps Gabrielle is concerned that Xena may be jealous? To much talking about a man? Gabrielle then says "Well you should hear when I tell stories about you; then I really get going." Hmmm...what stories could she tell? And later in the episode, Xena enters a cave where she left Gabrielle and Meleager, only to find they've been stolen. "Arbus...he's got them." says Xena, with her lower lip actually trembling! Yes, now it can be said that Xena "wubs" at the loss of her trusty "sidekick."
