Forget Me Not

To prepare Gabrielle for her journey, the priestess and her helpers give Gabrielle a sponge bath. (And yes, just in case you are asking yourself, everytime women touch it IS of a lesbian nature. They are very sneaky and resourceful people.) When she crosses the second river, the River Of Woe, Gabrielle decides that her personal redemption was in Xena's forgiveness in Ming-Tien's dungeon. Not really subtext, just to inforce the importance that Xena is to Gabrielle's emotional and mental well-being. Meanwhile, the memoryless Gabrielle after hearing stories about Xena from Joxer says "I'm looking forward to meeting Xena. Do you think she'll like me?" "Probably." answers Joxer. Based on what, you may ask? Well, she is pretty much an empty vessel, but darn it, she LOOKS like Gabrielle. (That's enough for me. Probably enough for Xena, too.) Anyway, Gabrielle back in her memory world confronts Ares and confesses "I hated her for loving someone else!" This is the crux of her personal torment: her jealousy of Xena's relationship with Lao-Ma. Back in the real world, Joxer convinces Gabrielle that she is in love with him because of all the stories he has read her. But he confesses that he replaced his name for Xena's in the stories. So if reading her tales but replacing "Xena" for "Joxer" convinced Gabrielle that she was in love with Joxer...then...*sigh*...She must love Xena! And of course, finally when Xena shows up, she and Gabrielle hug.
Katie points out that after Joxer reads Gabrielle's scrolls back to her, inserting his name for Xena's, Gabrielle says "Take me Joxer, now. Like the time just before you saved Ulysses."
