Between the Lines

    • Gabrielle admires Xena's new Indian outfit so much that she actually "Oooos."
      • "It says casual; it says sexy; it says a lot."
    • "Naema, I don't know what you think you're doing--" begins Xena when she is suddenly distracted by Naema lifting her cloth, revealing her firm tummy and Indian sports bra.
    • Gabrielle says to Naema "This karma that you're talking about, can you see mine? Can you see how much Xena's a part of that?"
"Yes. In many lives, past and future. You are right."
    • Gabrielle and Naema sit on the floor facing each other, Gabrielle feeling Naema's mendi.
    • As a sign to Gabrielle, Naema hides the mendi tools in a woman symbol painted on the wall.
    • Xena turns to Gabrielle. "It's funny; here you're the warrior. The hero."
"Xena, in this lifetime the mother of peace would be a goddess to me. That's a hero."
    • In Alti's tent, Xena is giving an unconscious Gabrielle a sponge bath.
    • Xena and Gabrielle spend some quality time drawing mendi on each other. (Then Xena seems to unnecessarily caress Gabrielle's markings.)
    • Naema says "...and you Gabrielle, you both walk a path together. Think of yourselves as lines in the mendi: seperated, but forever connected."
    • Gabrielle says to Xena "She said that your karma and mine, they're intertwined."
"Maybe it's not the first time we've walked down this road," responds Xena.
"Maybe it won't be the last. How would I recognize you?"
"We need a sign. (Xena draws the symbol for woman on her body.) This way, no matter how we look, we'll always remember the women we were. Like it?"
      "I love it."
    Notes:
Well, Gabrielle gets a new hairdo in this episode. At the end of the episode, which is our first chance to see it, i thought it looked okay, but don't worry! In the next episode it looks awesome.
Unfortunately, Alti was a lot less interesting in this episode than she was in Adventures In The Sin Trade I & II. She is a lot more two dimensional in the future, i guess.
But one thing this episode gave us was the woman symbol as a reference to Xena and Gabrielle.
When Naema was trying to explain karma to Gabrielle, did anybody else think that Gabrielle was being shown the magic of Lucky Charms? We sat in my apartment saying "Oo! Look! Green clovers! Purple horseshoes!"
