Gabrielle's reason for saving Hope is, as she tells Xena, "I just couldn't stand the thought of losing you." Xena is miffed, but seems to take this as an acceptable excuse. Xena later, upon seeing Hope, says "The one I love most in all the world and the one I hate look exactly the same." Hope, desguised as Gabrielle, asks Joxer, "What would you make of my feelings toward Xena?" To which he responds "Xena? You know! You love her more than anybody in the whole world!" Xena later tells Gabrielle "Listen to me. A lots happened to us over the past year and there were times when we were both very confused. But I want you to know that I still think you are the best thing that ever happened to me. You gave my life meaning and joy and you will be a part of me forever." After which, they hug. Then of course, the biggy: Gabrielle sacrifices her own life so that Xena might live. As she and Hope plummet into the lava, Xena races to the cleft and calls "Gabby!" Callisto finds joy in Gabrielle's death: "I never thought I'd feel so good again, seeing poor dear Gabrielle sacrifice herself makes it all worthwhile. It finally gives me a reason for living." Perhaps she wants to take Gabrielle's place in Xena's heart? It sure seems that way when Xena stabs her and as she sinks down dying, she draws her hand down Xena's body in a dying caress.
AlBi points out: "as Gabrielle decides to sacrifice herself so that others can live, her last sight on earth is a lingering look at Xena over Hope's shoulder, as she drags herself into a fiery grave."
Radon points out the subtext between Gabrielle and Callisto: In Sacrafice II when Hope (who look's exactly like Gabrielle) comes out of the cacoon all naked and wet with that nast stuff all over her Clallisto look's currious,happy, & sexually excited (probly glad to see someone who look's exactly like Gabrielle naked). #23 Then when Callisto can't get any from Hope or Aries because they're all over eachother and she switche's sides only to find Xena hanging off a cliff she's pretty happy (probly because that means she'll have Gabrielle all to herself. #24 Also when Xena want's Gabrielle to let her friend go Callisto look's at Xena as if to say how can you do that to Gabrielle when you know she's going to be hurt when her friend dies. #25 Then as Xena kicking Joxer's a** Callisto leans over on her horse real close to Gabrielle asking her if she by in chance snuck in the cave on got the hindsblood dagger while looking her up and down and staring at her skirt. I mean what are the odds that she would? She's probly just using that as an excuse to get closer to Gabrielle. #26 Then when Gabrielle sacrafices herselfself she makes that comment about never feeling as happy as she did in her whole life when she probly knows saying that esspescially at that time is going to get her a** killed (maby she feels that happy because she knows Xena killing her was part of the deal & just to make sure she followed up on it said that so she could be with her #1 crush Gabrielle forever). #27 Just as dies she smiles while caressing Xena (probly happy to go into Heaven with her Love Gabrielle).
