Not much love and happiness in this episode! At the begining, Gabrielle and the woman she killed are walking towards each other, in slow motion, in a happy, sunny field. This scene was a bit like the cliche visual of a man and woman running towards each other in slow motion, same field, arms outstretched, happy love music rising to a crescendo as they embrace. The banshees say to Gabrielle, "We love you. We worship you." Well, who doesn't? Though there is a moment in the castle, when Gabrielle is sleeping, Xena stands above her, watching her protectively. (Thanks, sam!) And Gabrielle says to Hope, "We can't rest. Xena won't. I know her." (Ok, so this really isn't subtext, but i chuckled so i thought i'd include it.) Other than lots of hugsies in this episode, that's it.
kgalles points out: Also, the whole baby delivery scene was full of subtext.
